In 1978 the United States began officially celebrating Grandparents’ Day across the country. Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation for the holiday after efforts by Marian McQuade of West Virginia had managed to rally the majority of the states behind the idea of Grandparents’ Day in just a few years. McQuade had made it her mission to raise awareness of the contributions of seniors throughout history. This holiday was formed as an effort to honor the role that this population often played in the lives of their children’s children.
At Curran’s Flowers, we have helped many customers find the right gift to let these special people know how much you care about them. Whether you plan on celebrating with a delicious meal or you live so far that a phone call will have to do, topping off the celebration with a well-planned present can be the perfect touch.
Flowers are a great idea for gifts. They add a gorgeous splash of color and can help light up both the faces of the recipients and the entire indoors. In September, much of the country begins to enter fall. With the change in seasons comes cooler weather and the slow disappearance of flowers outside. By bringing these gorgeous arrangements inside, grandchildren can help their grandparents preserve a bit of the beauty of the summer and make everything feel a bit more refreshed and renewed.
